Within the American culinary history, bacon comes from the belly. For old Europe, bacon referred to any piece of pork that had been salted. Bacon has a history. And for many of us, the aroma of bacon illicit it's own personal history of cozy kitchens. Dating back to as early as 1104, "bringing home the bacon" meant a wedded couple had been awarded a side of bacon for a year in which they had not "wisht themselves unmarried." If one brought home the bacon, they were coming home to marital bliss. Bacon confers conjugal happiness, it would seem. Enjoy.
